May the 4th and 5th

Last night, many homes and castles around Denmark lit candles in their windows.  75 years ago, northern Europe was freed from German occupation, marking the end of WWII. Denmark had been under German control for five years.  The official celebration of their liberation is May 5th. It is one of Denmark's official flag flying days, so flags are flown on all buses and flagpoles across the country.

It's important to remember Canadian troops played a long overlooked role in preventing horrible miseries perpetrated by the Russian advance. Denmark may have suffered a vastly different end to WWII if it were not for some very brave Canadian paratroopers and a clever bluff...
