cusi
We spent sunday afternoon with our friends in a place just south of Cuautemoc. It was one of the best experiences yet. Thirteen of us in a suburban drove down a long bumpy windy road into the mountains, passing cows and horses trotting along the roadside. This little place was another example of what happens when a railroad passes you by. It used to be bigger but Cuauhtemoc got the railroad and it has flourished instead (bigger than Casas).
Pictures:
1. Ila on the sand dunes (this was Liam's favorite place)
2. Liam (blue coat) and friends climbing part of a mountain
3. Rus and friend standing at the bottom of a hole about 30 feet deep with a tree growing up from the bottom of it. They were the only ones brave enough to go down (they just used a rope tied onto the tree). I regret not trying it too. Maybe next time...
4. Rus climbing back out
5. Exploring one of the many shallow caves in the area
6. The suburban got stuck, but with the help of some friendly men, was freed.
We came to Cusi to celebrate our friends' eldest daughter's birthday. We built a fire along the river, had Tres Leches cake and smashed a piñata. I was the lucky one who smashed open the piñata and set the candy loose. I found confetti in my hair and on my clothes for quite some time after. Mei saw the confetti on my shirt and said "Mom, look, there's a party on your shirt."
We made it home late sunday night with a few extra chili candies in our pockets.
We have promised Liam that by the time it's his birthday we will have learned the piñata song. The length of each child's turn goes for the length of the song so the song is sung all the way through for each child.
"Dale, dale, dale, no perdes el tino
porque si lo perdes, pierdes el camino
una, dos, tres"
This loosely translates to: "Hit, hit, hit. Don't lose your aim because if you lose, you will lose the road. One, two, three."
